Today it is a very exciting day for us, we have decided to pivot our business model.
So far, we have been selling on Amazon steadily and we have our website, where we have a few sales per month, but most of all, our efforts were to scale on Amazon.
We are quite proud of what we have achieved on Amazon, we have more than 80 reviews with a good 4.6 out of 5, we are the Amazon choice for “Spanish Olive Oil” and we have grown enough to be selling in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, The Netherlands and sometimes we have some orders from places we hadn´t ever heard before like some remote island.
At this point, we decided that we wanted to go a step further. We want to grow our website. Being honest, we have tried already promoting our web with Facebook ads and Google ads, However, in my opinion, we were not enough prepared for running FC ads and in Google ads, we were bidding against Asda, Tesco, Waitrose, Lidl in the advertisement budget.
And we learn by firing money that, those companies were not there to be profitable, but for “branding”, they don’t care to spend too much on google, they want to be on the top when you look for a grocery like olive oil. We learnt that we couldn´t compete with these brands for being profitable selling a tin can of 24.95£, it is simple, you just cannot be profitable.
Anyway, that is a problem which makes us being away from promoting our website, however, this year it is when we realise, wait a minute... What were our thoughts to start this business?
We wanted to compete against what a supermarket olive oil in the UK. How? We wanted to have a really good quality extra virgin olive oil if not better than any you can find there, at a reasonable price (including the shipping) and we wanted to offer 3L-5L which you cannot find in a supermarket.
It is when we realise that these statements suit perfectly for a subscription model. We can offer the same extra virgin olive oil shipping to your house and because we have the certainty that you are going to have a second, a third unit each 1, 2 or 3 months. We can, on the one hand, offer you a cheaper price, and on the other hand, give us some more room to try again promoting our website.
We wanted to be transparent, honest with the subscription model, so you can cancel anytime or changing the time of arriving, we wanted to do as we would like to be as a customer. Putting first the customer than our own benefit. There is no hidden parts or ways to make more profit from you.
And here it is where we are right now, I have been studied for more than 3 months almost every day how to run a successful Facebook campaign, while Alberto put so much effort to renovate the website adding the new features, there was a bunch of things that he didn’t know how to do it, it is not easy at all to create this system, but he is the typical person who against a problem, he answers give me a few days to learn how to solve it, instead of I don’t know how to do it, sorry.
